Silvertail Tribe Tales: Ch. 17Chapter 17: Flashback: Dream Name
“You are ready to learn your True Name.” The deep voice of the Elder preceded any visuals in the blackness. But only these few words were needed for her to recall the ritual of the Dream Name.
Tauren are complicated when it comes to names. Naturally, parents choose one for their child as it is born, or even days or weeks later. A sound or word in their rough yet flowing native language to bless or describe the babe with. Sometimes events pretty much give away the name. Such as the sound of that first, tense moment of drawing breath – Wirha.
They mention which tribe they were born into instead of a surname, as such you could be ‘of the Silvertail tribe’ or a more modern bovine may plainly go with ‘Silvertail’, mimicking how last names work for their allies of the Horde. Or even more open-mindedly, one could join a different tribe, through marriage or merit, and use their name in addition to, or, instead o

“Hail, Stripesnout.” A soothing feminine voice lighter than the air itself drifted through her mind. It was not the Elder talking, for her jaws did not move. Alike the rest of the Tauren surrounding her younger self, the Crone stood perplexed, gaping at the owl. She didn’t think they had heard the voice either, for although surprised, they did not look around for its source or question it.
It dawned on her that it must have been the owl itself, though she could not recall having heard it at the time of all this happening. Nor did she go by this name yet, at the time. The bird focused its gaze on the white lines crossing her snout, thus fabricating her own name for the Tauren she had decided to follow. Perhaps, as Wirha was now roaming her memories, devoid of physicality, she had joined the owl in the spirit world and was only now able to discern its words.
She could hear the Elder clear her throat and express her surpr
Silvertail Tribe Tales: Ch. 15Chapter 15: Flashback: The Rite of Vision
It was as if thinking of his very name summoned forth the image of the bull with the bison-like horns. Noreshe was standing right next to a blazing bonfire almost twice his height and four of a Tauren’s long strides wide, clutching in his hands a glass bowl, possibly the only glass container in the tribe and a possession of the Elder Crone herself. Through its transparent matter one could see that it held a whirling, bright aquamarine liquid that seemed almost as vibrant with energy as the flames of the fire encouraged by a gentle breeze.
At a safe enough distance, in a circle around the fire, sat all the youngsters of the tribe who were ready to take part in the final ritual before their coming of age. Among them, on the front row, sat Wirha with her legs pulled up until she could rest her chin upon her knees, wrapping her arms around them. She was just that nervous, for all her preparations had been to no avail, but also ex

Her vision rippled as though a droplet had fallen in de dead centre of a puddle. The oddest feeling crept up on her as she was looking at herself looking at herself in the reflection cast by the clear liquid inside a wooden bowl. The young Wirha sat kneeling and hunched over it, supporting herself on her hands placed on the ground on either side of the bowl as she gazed intensely at herself.
It is no use, you are not going to see anything other than yourself in plain water. She could hardly believe she’d once been so gullible as to think otherwise. But her wordless exclamation of dismay could not reach let alone change her past self’s mind. The final rite was nigh upon her this time, the Rite of Vision. And she remembered how she’d tried to prepare herself for it – despite, or perhaps because of, having been repeatedly told that no one could.
